Charmed, I'm Sure

by Jane Swanson (Mar 31, 2004)

Ah, the charmed life… I don't live one but using charms on my scrapbook pages gets me close! Charms are defined as jewelry-like trinkets or words believed to possess magic power. When attaching the metal ornaments to your layouts you will feel the enchantment they create.

For this layout I replaced certain words in my story with various charms. While I would normally use only one or two charms on a layout, it was a fun way for my daughter to read along with the story on her scrapbook page. A lumpy layout like this could produce dents on the facing page in your scrapbook so care should be taken to keep the album upright.

Types of Charms:

  • Variety of themes

  • Silver/Gold Copper/Bronze

  • Large/lumpy

  • Small/thin

Sources for Charms:

  • Craft and hobby stores (the jewelry making sections)

  • Jewelry Boxes (grandma's attic or your own)

  • Fishing Tackle (lures and hooks)

  • Online sites (search for scrapbook charms)

  • Scrapbook stores (charms designed specifically for scrapbooking)

Ways to Attach Charms:

  • Glue Dots

  • Ribbon or Fiber

  • Jump rings/Chains

  • E6000 (industrial strength adhesive for heavier charms)

  • Brads

  • Strung from wire

  • Free-floating in shaker type boxes

The next time you are looking for a fun way to add that extra pizzazz to your scrapbook pages, extend a delicate arm and utter those soft words, "Charmed, I'm sure!"
