Old Supplies, New Designs: Charms
I've been using charms on my scrapbook pages for years. In fact I even wrote a previous article about how to use them to add just the right "wow" factor to a layout. So, I had to ask myself, "Is there anything new to say about using charms?" Peeking into my older scrapbooks that house my charmed pages, I've come up with a few more tips that just might have you digging out those precious baubles for fresh looks on your own pages. Fresh tips: - Use a good adhesive. I'm happy to report that E6000, KI Gloo, and glue dots have been holding my charms effortlessly these past years.
- Position those pages with three-dimensional charms in your scrapbook so that they do not make a dent on a photo on the opposite page. Consider using a thinner charm.
- A good quality charm doesn't discolor with age but neither does a faux piece from the bottom of the jewelry box.
- Most of my previous pages that feature charms are girl pages. Charms work well for boy pages too!
- Attach charms with a ribbon or fiber for more texture and dimension but don't forget to use a glue dot to keep that charm from swinging.
- Not all charms are metal. Use some of the new puffy soft charms on your pages. This will eliminate some of the abrasiveness to adjacent pages.
- Re-visit those great ideas. In the previous article I featured a layout that used charms instead of words to illustrate a story that I wrote about my daughter and her stuffed frog. That page continues to delight her with its many charms and I am inspired to re-create something similar for my pre-reading grandsons.
Enamor, captivate, fascinate, enthrall, mesmerize and enchant are all words that will describe your pages when you continue to use those old supplies of charms to create new looks on your pages.
