Cricut Card Tutorial: Hip Hip Hooray

I have 31 Cricut cartridges, and I really like all of them.  But there are some that I absolutely LOVE, and Create a Critter is one of them.  With this cartridge, you can create some of the most adorable little animals imaginable. 

Recently one of my husband’s co-workers had a baby girl, and he asked me to make her a card.  I decided to use the hippo on page 44 of the Create a Critter manual to make a standard A2 (5 ½ “ x 4 ¼ “) card.  Here is a quick and easy tutorial that you can follow to create your own.

Supplies and Tools*

• pink cardstock in 3 coordinating shades                   
• black cardstock
• white cardstock
• green patterned paper
• aqua patterned paper
• ribbon
• adhesive
• border punch
• buttons
• Soufflé pens by Sakura
• Cricut machine by Provocraft
• Create a Critter Cricut cartridge by Provocraft
• paper trimmer
• embossing machine
• embossing plate or folder

*You can, of course, substitute other colors to suit your needs.

Instructions:

1. Cut the base cardstock (I used pink) to 5 ½” x 11”, and fold it in half to create a 5 ½” x 4 ¼” card.
   
   
2. Cut a piece of patterned paper (I used green) to 5 ¼” x 4”, and adhere it to the card base.
   
   
3. Cut a piece of coordinating pink cardstock to 1 ½” x 4 ¼”, and use an embossing plate or folder to emboss a pattern.
   
   
4. Adhere the embossed pink strip along the left edge of the card.
   
   
5. Cut all hippo pieces at 2 ¼” as follows:
   
   Base Icon – black
   Layer 1 – dark pink
   Layer 2 – light pink
   Layer 3 – medium pink
6. Cut water and grass at 1 ¼” as follows:   
   
   Accessory – aqua
   Shift Accessory – green
   
   
7. Cut greeting at 1” as follows:
   
   Phrase – pink
   Shift Phrase – aqua
   
   Using Soufflé pens, add dots to the greeting.
8. Assemble and adhere all pieces, referring to the photo and manual (p.44).
   
   
9. Punch a 1” x 5 ½” piece of white cardstock using the border punch, and adhere to the bottom of the card. 
   
   
10. Tie the ribbon into a bow around the bottom of the card, just above the punched border.

Create a Critter is a fun, versatile cartridge.  The layers are easy to assemble, and the images can be used for birthday cards, baby cards, adult cards, children’s projects, and even home décor.  It’s my new favorite cartridge, and I think it will become yours too.
