3D Cards

When making cards, most of us create cards to fit inside envelopes. Why not take a new, fun, and fresh approach to creating greetings for loved ones? In this article, you will find three projects that not only share sentiments and notes, but also include something more. Have fun creating! Project #1: Sweet Sentiments This 3D card is sweet - literally! Two candy bars are tucked inside this wrap-around card. The sentiment is on a little tag, which has an attached journaling spot to add your personal note.
Suggested Supplies:
The pink and orange papers are simply wrapped around the candy bars. Glue Dots hold the papers together underneath. The dimensions of these wrappings are 6” x 5 ½” and 6” x 2”. (Note: Your candy bars may be a little smaller or larger. Adjust the dimensions to suit your candy bar size.) Create the sentiment tag next. You will cut two separate tags. Each tag will be 3” x 1 ½”. Stamp the sentiment on the front tag as desired. I used markers to give my stamping a little more spunk and color. Stamp the second tag using a journaling stamp. Add your personal note. Next, wrap a piece of ribbon around the candy, as shown. Secure on the underside with a Glue Dot. Now, use another Glue Dot to attach the small tags together on the top left of the tags. Use a final Glue Dot to attach the mini-card tags to the card itself, as shown. Project #2: Christmas Tree Card
Start with red cardstock. Fold the cardstock in half to create a card shape, and cut to the desired size. I then used a corner rounder to round all the corners of the card for some flair. Then, use a Christmas-themed patterned paper to add to the front of the card, as shown. Use a rubber stamp to add sentiment to the bottom of the card. Next, grab some green patterned paper that will flatter the Christmas-themed paper you added to the front of the card. I made the triangle shapes of the tree in four parts. Start by folding the patterned paper diagonally so you create a triangle. Cut smaller triangles from the large triangle. Be sure you have four of the same size and that each has a fold down the long side. Glue each piece shut so it no longer has flaps. You will now have the four pieces to make the green part of the tree. (See the photo.) The two triangles in the back were attached directly to the card. Glue as much down as you can. The next two triangles are a bit trickier. Use Glue Dots along the edge that will attach to the card. Attach to the card carefully. Next, use a bit of brown paper to add the trunk, and then add the star to the top. Finally, use gems to create sparkly ornaments.
This card is perfect for small work gifts or to use anytime you have a little gift to give someone in addition to a card. The goodie-box card I created is a baby-themed card box. Tucked inside are some sweet treats for a new mom. You can use these boxes for any occasion! The box is simple to create. You will need a 12” x 12” sheet of patterned paper and the template included in this article. It's much easier than it looks!
Once you have your box assembled, it is time to embellish your card box and to create the tag card. Use coordinating papers and ribbons of your choice to embellish. For the tag card, you will cut two pieces of the same size from patterned paper. See Project #1 for details on creating the tag card. Use stamps, embellishments, ribbons, and more to create the perfect tag card to fit your occasion. Don't forget to write your special message on the inside of your tag! Have fun thinking of even more ways to create different and dimensional cards. All it takes is a little creativity! We can't wait to see all the fun projects you add to the Scrapjazz Gallery!
