Unique Border Ideas

by Rockester (Feb 2, 2005)

A stunning border adds so much to the overall layout of a page. Borders can reinforce a theme, add decorative elements, or serve a practical purpose. You may want to utilize a border to hold the title, journaling or photos on a page. You can also use borders to simply be creative with shape and color to fill a space. Adding an exciting twist to your border treatments creates a fresh look. Try something new! Here are four innovative border ideas:

Letter Jumble - Randomly place black letters on a two-inch border and then place colorful letters to spell out your focus wording which will stand out among the jumble of black letters.

Window Border - Place border elements underneath the background paper instead of on top of it. Punch, cut, rip, or shred your background paper to create windows. Add a coordinating patterned paper, title letters, or other embellishments that will show through the windows. This border idea can add layers and depth to your page.

Pinwheels - Pinwheels are dimensional folding at its simplest and most versatile. Mini pinwheels can be made from any paper square with just a brad and scissors.

Chained Fiber - Add dimension to your fiber borders and tag tops by adding a simple crochet chain stitch. The basic repetitive loop infuses any fiber with more body.

Let your creativity take off in a new direction with these great concepts. When I experimented with these new border techniques, I loved the results!
