Altered CD and DVD Cases

by Sherrill Ghilardi Pierre (Mar 14, 2006)

I'm the type of person who keeps almost anything - "hoarder" might be a good term to describe me. Okay, I'm not quite that bad but I do like to "collect." So, when I started receiving those AOL and other internet service provider CDs in the mail, what else could I do besides save them because surely there must be something I'd be able to use these cute little plastic and tin containers for. I was even more excited when they started coming in DVD cases too because those were even bigger and I knew they'd really come in handy eventually.

Well, imagine my delight when I started seeing the actual CDs used for altering a few years ago. I went through a phase where I did my share of altering them but I never used the cases for anything. Of course, I kept them anyway. This past year, I started experimenting with them, trying to find different things I could use them for and I found out that they're really a lot of fun to use. Here are some ideas I came up with:

  • Calendar/date book
  • Photo album
  • Mini scrapbook album
  • Book for quotes
  • Greeting card
  • Storage for small things
  • Earring holder - use a piece of cork and put your earrings through the cork and keep the cork stored in the case (my husband's idea)
  • Picture frame
  • Note pad

Here are a few of the projects I've created using my stash of cases:
