Altered Peanut Butter Jars

Are you ever looking for a simple decorative jar to store some embellishments or candy in, or perhaps to give as a gift? Consider altering a peanut butter jar. It's inexpensive, easy, and looks great. Step 1: Decide what size peanut butter jar you want to alter. I used the 15 oz. size for the ones shown here, but you can use the larger size as well. Take the labels off and run both the top and bottom through the dishwasher until it is clean; it might require more than one cycle. Step 2: Select the papers you want to use and cut them to size as follows:

Step 3: Decorate the papers. Flat decorations, such as the stamped phrase, "Create Art," and the paper around it on the photo above, should be done before attaching the papers to the jar. Bumpy embellishments, such as flowers, buttons, and ribbons, should be left for later.
Step 5 (optional): For a more finished appearance and feel, I like to coat the outside of the papers with a thin coat of Mod Podge. (Use the matte kind so it won't be sticky.) Step 6: After the Mod Podge is dry, decorate with ribbons, flowers, buttons, or any other embellishments that you like. I use glue dots to hold them in place. Once your jar is done, fill it up with whatever you'd like and give it away, or keep it for yourself.
