Altered Glass Coasters
Have you ever altered glass coasters? Have you ever thought of using them as place holders for your Thanksgiving table? Glass coasters are super fun to alter, and really turn out great. Below are step-by-step instructions on how to make these fun additions to your holiday table. Buying Glass Coasters First you will need to go shopping and find some glass coasters to alter. You can find them at your local bed-and-bath stores, online, or even use the Creative Imaginations Greg glass coasters specifically designed for this purpose. I used the Creative Imaginations coasters. They come four to a package and include rubber feet to add to the back once you have altered them. Time to Create Now that you have your coasters, it is time to put them together. - Trace the coaster onto your patterned paper and cut out. I found that each piece of glass was slightly irregular so it was much better to trace the glass.
- Design each page with flat embellishments. I find photos, rub-ons, die cuts, and stickers work the best.
- Run a small amount of KI Gloo around the edges of your page when you have finished designing.
- Place your glass coaster on top. Turn the coaster over and run your brayer on the back of the paper to make sure the glue sticks well.
- Dry overnight.
- Cover the back with clear contact paper to keep the back protected. Tammy Kay, design team member for Creative Imaginations, suggested the contact paper, and it works really well.
- Add rubber feet.
Finished Product Here are how some of my coasters turned out. A Note about Adhesives This was the hardest part I found about putting my coasters together. I could not find an adhesive that would hold my patterned paper to the glass. I even purchased an adhesive that said it was specifically for glass, and it did not work. Then I tried by my trusty KI Gloo. It worked. So my suggestion would be to use KI Gloo. Other Occasions Of course these coasters can be used for any occasion even for everyday use. I altered this set as a gift for my sister. I mostly used rub-ons and patterned paper for these coasters. Rub-ons add such a nice touch! She is going to use them in her new family room. So even if you do not choose to make holiday-specific coasters, you can make sets for everyday use. They also make great gifts. So, grab those coasters and get altering. They truly are fun and easy to make!
