Step-by-Step: Bookmark

by Danette Schellhous (Mar 2, 2006)

From the time I could write, I have always been a doodler. In fact, I remember a time when my mom scolded me after she found my first grade teacher's name written in my 6-year-old script all over an important piece of paper. And even to this day paper can be found all over my house with my writing and doodles all over. (My husband teases me relentlessly for it.)

A few weeks ago, my husband found some flowers he'd picked and dried "for his future wife" when he lived in Thailand. Of course I wanted to do something special with them. Sakura of America's glaze pens were the perfect way to make a personal touch on the bookmark I chose to create with my special keepsakes.

Supplies:

1 sheet of white cardstock (cut to 7" x 4")
1 sheet of black cardstock (cut to 7 1/4"x 4 1/4")
dried flowers or other kinds of silk or paper flowers
Sakura Glaze pens
1 wallet-size picture

  1. Mount the white cardstock onto the black cardstock.

  2. Using one of the glaze pens create a border around the white cardstock.

  3. Place (but don't attach just yet) the photo on the right side of the cardstock leaving room for the floral embellishments.

  4. Using the flowers create "photo corners" around three of the picture's corners.

  5. Attach the photo.

  6. On the left side of the picture create a title with a glaze pen. Using a second color embellish your title to create some interest.

  7. Adhere flowers below the title.

This can be varied to any size layout. Enjoy your keepsake made with your own personal touches!
