Margarita Madness: Step-by-Step

by Kristi Mangan (Aug 4, 2005)

I absolutely LOVE bright, bold colors! Sometimes they can be a little intimidating; however, I feel if you use the right embellishments and photos, bright-colored layouts can be so much fun! In my layout, “Margarita Madness,” I used the bright bold colors of the Beach Hut line by Fancy Pants Designs. I used their coordinating paper flowers and sticker embellishments and I finished it up with some letter stickers and hand journaling.

Here’s how I made my layout:

Supplies Needed:
8 ½” x 11” piece of solid-colored patterned paper
Two 8 ½” x 1” strips of striped coordinating patterned paper
4 ½” x 6 ½” piece of orange-colored cardstock
Two paper flowers
Two brads
One sticker embellishment
Black alphabet stickers
Black journaling pen
Ink

  1. Start with your solid-colored patterned paper (I used a bright sunny yellow paper), and trim to 8 ½” x 11” if necessary. This will be the base of your landscape layout.

  2. Cut two strips of striped patterned paper to 8 ½” x 1”. Use an ink pad to ink the edges of the strips of paper. (I used Colorbox Cocoa ink.)

  3. Adhere the strips of striped patterned paper to the left side of the solid-colored paper, placing them a ½” apart and starting a ½” away from the edge.

  4. In the bottom right corner of the layout, place a sticker embellishment that coordinates with your paper choices.

  5. Mat your photo onto the solid-colored cardstock (I used orange) and ink the edges of the cardstock. Adhere your photo about a ¼” away from the edge of the striped paper. Use number stickers to indicate the year on the right side of the photo.

  6. Use letter stickers to spell out your title on the striped paper. Add some paper flowers with brads for decoration. Finish off your layout with some handwritten journaling in the empty space.
