Step-by-Step: Build

by Jane Swanson (Jun 18, 2008)

High School graduation brings the annual yearbook with a stand out title page citing that school year's theme. In the same way, I wanted the title page theme for my daughter's high school scrapbook to be the idea of building from the foundation of the past as she goes out to build her future. This is how that important page came together on an 8" x 10" album layout.

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Start with an 8" x 10" white sheet of cardstock.

  2. Cut a 4" x 10" strip of rust printed cardstock. Adhere ½" from the left side.

  3. Cut a 1" x 8" strip of black cardstock. Adhere ½" from the right side.

  4. Cut a 1" x 8" strip of white corrugated paper. Adhere it horizontally 1 ½' from the bottom over the top of the rust and black strips.

  5. Cut a 3 ½" x 4" piece of the tan-colored corrugated paper panel. Adhere it ½" from the bottom and centered on the black strip.

  6. Adhere a 4" x 6" photo ¾" from the top and 3" from the right side, leaving room for journaling strips.

  7. Attach a 3 ½" x 1 ½" title strip to the right side of the white cardstock. This strip should overlap the photo and be 1" from the top.

Three additional 2 ¼" x ½" journaling strips are added below the title strip and overlapped on the black strip.

  8. Add another journaling strip and cut-out stamped images to the tan corrugated panel. I used a chalkboard stamping technique to create the embellishments.

  9. Adhere two 3" x ¼" black strips to the bottom left corner of page. Have one of the strips overlap the tan panel.

  10. Attach three round silver brads to the top right corner of the page.

Layer upon layer you can build your own pages to preserve your child's school memories. Start with the firm foundation incorporated in these steps in just the same way that you built them into your child's life.
