Hybrid Step-by-Step: Ice Caves
Hybrid scrapbooking is becoming ever more popular. The mix of digital elements combined with the feel and dimension of traditional paper scrapbooking is very appealing. Here is a step-by-step example of mixing digital and traditional scrapbooking in one layout. - Choose digital photographs and coordinating cardstock or patterned paper.
- Edit the photographs in photo editing software. Adjust levels, colors, brightness, rotation, cropping etc. as needed. I adjusted levels and cropped two photographs into 3.8" squares and one horizontal photograph to fit beneath the two squares.
- Open a new document in photo editing software to arrange the photographs. In Adobe Photoshop I opened a new document the size I wanted for my photo collage plus a little more for the title. I chose an area of 8" x 8" with a black background. The black background will create a border around the whole collage.
- Place cropped photographs on the document with the black background.
- Using text tools in the photo editing software, add a title. I used the dropper tool to pick the font colors from the photographs. The font is Arial at 36 pt. Use the Move tool to place the font as needed.
- Print photographs with border and title together on one sheet.Keeping photographs, border and title as one piece, trim around the edges.
- Attach with adhesive to cardstock or patterned paper on the far left side.
- Place journaling to the right of the photographs, either as a journaling block printed on the computer or hand journaling.
- Add traditional embellishments. I added strips of inked patterned paper above and below the photographs. I also added chipboard for texture and dimension.
Any layout can incorporate the elements of digital and traditional, creating fun new layout ideas.
