Step-by-Step: Molly Look-Alike

by Jane Swanson (Oct 11, 2007)
Molly McIntyre of American Girl fame entered my eight year old's world this past Christmas with a bang. So it seemed appropriate to use a Fourth of July fireworks photo alongside the look-alike photos of the doll Molly and my daughter, Jaimee.

Photos, as always, suggested the color scheme, and red, blue, and lime green became the focal trio. The background cardstock is printed with a design that breaks up the solid red feel and adds a layered textured look. Adirondack inks in Lettuce and Stonewashed were used to stain the Heidi Swapp chipboard letters, and the journaling strip color and title strip color were chosen to coordinate with the ink. CK Sassy Font matched the tone of the page and was used for the one-word segments. Making Memories flower brads in lime and blue filled in the gaps.

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Attach fireworks photo to the top left of the page.
  2. Layer a 5" x 7" photo to the right, overlapping the fireworks photo.
  3. Layer a 4" x 5" photo to the bottom right of the 5" x 7" photo.
  4. Stain chipboard letters with makeup sponge and ink.
  5. Use glue dots to attach chipboard title letters; stagger the letters.
  6. Print blue title strip and attach below the chipboard letters.
  7. Cut journaling into separate words and cascade down the right side and through the center of page.
  8. Attach a large flower brad through the center of a silk flower and adhere to a title letter using glue dots.
  9. Attach smaller flower brads to the bottom right and top left of the page.

This page is structured using the rule of three. There are three photos, three sections of journaling, three lime green title letters, three blue sections in the title, and three groupings of brads. Try working with threes on your next page and watch the fireworks begin!
