Step-by-Step: Photo Decor

by Kayla Richards (Aug 17, 2007)

Why keep all your photos and work tucked away in albums? This very question came to mind when putting all my layouts into an album that I created about my friend's new daughter. I wanted to be able to have a little keepsake that could sit out on my desk, a bookshelf, or coffee table for all to see.

Now, with a little help, you can create your very own by following the steps below.

Supplies:

Instructions:

(Note: I inked the edges of each element of this project.)

  1. First choose your photo that you would like to use, and trim it down to fit within your mini layout. My photo was trimmed down to 3" x 3". Set it aside for now.
  2. Now grab your plain piece of cardstock. I trimmed mine to 5" x 7", but you can make your project any size you desire.
  3. Then choose which paper from the Chatterbox kit you would like for your background and adhere it to the chipboard, creating an even chipboard border.
  4. Now take another sheet of patterned paper from the Chatterbox kit, and cut just a strip off the short side. You can use deco scissors to give more dimension and fun to your project. Adhere that near the bottom of the layout, and then adhere your photo using a Zot to give even more dimension. Add a photo corner for a splash of color.
  5. Next add a chipboard flower embellishment which you can create using American Crafts Chipboard Canister Flowers and the jewel from the Chatterbox kit. Layer each element on top of the other and use Zots to attach the pieces.
  6. Then, add your title using the stickers from the Chatterbox kit. To ink the alphabet stickers, I rubbed my finger on the ink pad, and gently rubbed the letters I had already stuck onto the project.
  7. You are almost finished! Now all you need to do is embellish above your photo a little. The blue doodles and two flowers are stickers that came from the Chatterbox kit. Use deco scissors to trim the doodle sticker to the desired size and to make it more fun. Stick it directly above the photo. Next, use the Zots behind each flower, and layer them. Use the blue jewel from the Chatterbox kit, and an inked Heidi Swapp Index Tab (stuck between the two flowers) to complete your project.
  8. Your final step? Show it off!
