Step by Step: Jen’s Prom

by Kayla Richards (Jun 21, 2007)

That time of year has come and gone: prom season! I am sure if you have a teenage girl in your life, you have lots of prom and other formal dance photos in your stack of pictures. Perhaps you even have wedding photos you need to scrap. Below you will find easy step-by-step instructions on how to create an ultra-easy, yet still elegant, layout of your favorite formal memory.

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. First choose a color scheme that matches the colors in your photograph. I pulled the pink from James's tie for the patterned paper. Choosing a blue patterned paper would have distracted from the rich blue of Jen's dress in the photograph. Next, I chose a green floral that would complement the green in the photo, and also some more pink to tie the layout together. Finally, blue bling, the chipboard accent, and the flourish were chosen to accent Jen's dress. The tan cardstock acts as a neutral balance for all the colors.
  2. I cut my cardstock to 8 ½" x 11" and I cut the patterned paper to fit inside the tan cardstock. I then used a corner rounder to soften the edges of the pink paper. Next, I used my favorite tool, distressing ink, to enhance the edges of the papers and the photograph.
  3. I then adhered the pink paper to the cardstock, letting it sit at the bottom left. ,I placed the photograph using the same approximate margins on the bottom and left sides as I did when adhering the patterned paper to the cardstock.
  4. My next step was the floral embellishments. I layered a small floral over a large one, folded them in half, and stapled them together. Then I inked them up, and adhered them to the edge of the photograph, and added an inked circular embellishment. You can create your own embellishment by using a round punch on any patterned paper, or decorated chipboard.
  5. My final step was to add some more small embellishments. I used a flourish transparency on the upper right-hand corner to make the layout more elegant. You could use a flourish stamp, or hand-cut your own from paper. Next, I used tiny letters to spell out the title, and I attached three little bling dots to make this prom layout sparkle!

That's it! You're finished! You now have a beautiful prom or formal dance memory to look back on that will sparkle in your heart forever.
