Step-by-Step: Having His Cake...and Eating It Too

by Sheredian Vickers (May 28, 2007)

If you ever have a series of photos that you want to scrap, this is a layout to try. Get your photos, get your supplies, and in 15 minutes you've put your memories in your scrapbook. Having His Cake and Eating It Too is a layout that is suitable for either one or two pages, depending on the number of photos you have. I used six photos, trimmed to 4" x 4", but you can use more or less depending on your needs.

Supplies:

  • 2 sheets of cardstock (for background)
  • 1 sheet of coordinating cardstock*
  • 1 sheet of patterned paper*
  • letter stamps
  • ink pads (colors to match layout)
  • colored pens
  • buttons

*You can easily use your scraps for these pieces.

Instructions:

  1. Trim a series of photos to 4" x 4".
  2. Adhere photos to background cardstock 5" from the top of the page, and arrange in order from left to right as on layout.
  3. Trim two strips of the coordinating cardstock to 1¼" x 12".
  4. Trim two strips of patterned paper to ¾" x 12".
  5. Adhere a patterned paper strip onto each of the strips of coordinating cardstock.
  6. Adhere the layered strips ¼" below the line of photos.
  7. Adhere assorted colored buttons onto the strips.
  8. Stamp the title above the photos using fun letter stamps. Use colored ink pads or pens to coordinate with the color scheme of your layout.
  9. Draw a border ¼" from the top and sides of the layout with a colored pen.
  10. Use the open space to journal if you like.
