Step-by-Step: Spring

by Ramona Greenspan (Apr 3, 2007)

After a long cold winter, I am more than ready for spring. Trees budding, flowers blooming, and rain showers dripping are all welcome sights. And with spring comes Easter. Every year I host our annual neighborhood Easter egg hunt. I love filling and hiding the eggs, watching the excitement of the kids when they find an egg and getting together with neighbors and friends. I always have a few photos to document the occasion. What better kit to scrap them with than Doodlebug's Spring Kit.

It's simple to create this "springy" color-blocked layout. Let me show you how.

Supplies:

  • paper trimmed as follows:
    • 12" x 12" white cardstock down to 8 ½" x 11"
    • Princess textured cardstock to 5" x 8"
    • Pistachio textured cardstock to 3" x 9"
    • Bloomin' Stripes accent paper to 2 ½" x 5"
    • Patch of Posies accent paper to 1 ½" x 3"
  • marker - Uniball Signo
  • square punches - Marvy Uchida
  • photo corner punch - EK Success

Instructions

  1. Using the white cardstock as my background, I placed the Princess cardstock on the top right with the Bloomin' Stripes paper directly below it. Then I positioned the Patch of Posies accent paper on the upper left and the strip of Pistachio cardstock underneath it.
  2. I cut a 5" piece of Cupcake/White Gingham ribbon and covered the seam where the Princess cardstock and Bloomin' Stripes paper meet.
  3. I grouped three Limeade Paper Posies together and placed them at the end of the gingham ribbon.
  4. To add some pop and definition to the corners of the layout, I added punched photo corner accents from Lemon Lime textured cardstock.
  5. I placed the April cardstock sticker tab at the upper right of the focal point photo and adhered it on a slight angle on the strip of Princess cardstock.
  6. I also accented the larger photo with a blue cardstock sticker tag and a Cupcake mini brad.
  7. I wanted to include the group shot from the Easter egg hunt but didn't want to crowd the design with another 4" x 6" photo. So, I used two different-sized square punches and staggered the three small square photos on the Pistachio cardstock strip.
  8. I highlighted my journaling with bracket cardstock stickers.
  9. I finished it by using the Spring cardstock sticker tag with two Cupcake mini brads as my title.
