Step-by-Step: Daddy’s Girls
Choosing a color scheme can be difficult, especially when the photographs you're working with include a whole rainbow of colors that don't necessarily "go" together. That was the case with this photograph of all the girls in my family with my dad. A trick I've learned with these busy photographs is to try and match the background of the photograph with your background paper. The similar colors blend together, letting the subjects of the photograph stand out. I did just that by starting with pink cardstock that matched the wall in this photograph-then it was just a matter of embellishing and choosing the right accents! Supplies: Instructions: - Cut a sheet of cream-colored cardstock to 10 1/2" x 8" and round the corners.
- Cut a piece of the patterned paper to 5 ¼" x 7 ¾" and round two edges. Adhere the patterned paper to the right side of the cream-colored cardstock.
- Trim the photograph to fit in the space next to the patterned paper on the cream-colored cardstock and sand the edges of the picture. Then adhere the photograph to the cream cardstock, leaving a little bit of space above for a border and journaling.
- Add the chipboard self-adhesive letters to the bottom section of the cream-colored cardstock and patterned paper photo mat.
- Rub-on the maroon border by American Crafts just above the photograph.
- Using glue dots, add a flower apostrophe between the ‘Y' and ‘S' letters.
- Using a computer, print the word "girls" in a script font in green letters. Then with a green glitter pen, trace the letters to give the word a little shimmer. Add shadows with a pink glitter pen.
- Trim the subtitle "girls" into a 3 ½" strip and round the corners of one end of the strip. Then cut a matching white strip with rounded corners to adhere to the other side of the title by the 'D'. Ink the edges of the white cardstock with green ink.
- Next add rub-on images directly to the white chipboard letters, letting the images run over the sides of the letters.
- Add additional rub-on images to the subtitle and adhere both white strips with three maroon brads.
- Finally, add penwork with a pink Soufflé pen around the edges of the layout (rounding the corners). Then, add names to the layout with a brown Zig Writer above the rub-on border.
