What’s Your Scrapping Style?

This is one of the age-old scrapbooking questions you are guaranteed to be asked at some stage throughout your scrapbooking life. What's your scrapbooking style? It is a confusing question - for one, you don't use the same style all the time. It often depends on your mood, the photos you are using, the challenge you are participating in or the new products you want to try.   Scrapbookers obviously like trying new techniques and as you create more pages you learn more.  Scrapbooking will naturally evolve.   At some point, however, you will be in the groove of creating layouts from one style. You might favor something that's in fashion or something completely different. Find out what your current style is by taking part in our quick quiz.

Select one answer from each of the following questions that best describes you and note down the number shown in brackets.

 

1) What is your favorite scrapbook color scheme?

a)      Rich colors such as burgundy and gold (3)

If you scored mainly (1)s, then your style is "Steampunk."  This style combines a fun mixture of Victorian vintage with fantasy. Think hot air balloons and imaginary machines. You probably love science fiction movies and fairies. Your scrapbook pages quite often contain an eclectic mix of metal embellishments, cogs, clocks, harsh corners and pretty paper flowers.  Your page will always look busy but there are a lot of small creative details to each page. Try piecing together random cuttings from a variety of magazines to create unique backgrounds and stick to beiges and browns for maximum effect.

If you scored mainly (2)s, then your style is "Vintage."  The vintage style is one of the most versatile. It can also be known as "shabby-chic" or "romantic."  You love soft pastel colors and enjoy layering your page with lace, flowers and feminine embellishments.  The vintage style is known for complex and detailed pages. You are probably a very organised person and like to organise all of your scrapbooking items by color from your paper to your pens. You are often found sketching your ideas out before putting them on paper. For best results, use sepia photos and pastel pink.

If you scored mainly (3)s, then your style is "Bohemian" (boho chic).    You are naturally an artsy person and this style is very unconventional and artistic - anything goes.  You approach your scrapbook page with vigor and don't think too much about what you are doing. You always get a unique result. You enjoy getting messy with paints and mists to create unusual backgrounds. You love experimenting with different textures - especially material. Bohemian pages usually contain neutral backgrounds that you alter to suit, emphasize rich bright colors and have a gypsy feel about them. Try adding swirls to your page for maximum impact.

If you scored mainly (4)s, your style is "Flashy."    You like your pages to be noticed. You love using glitter all over the page - the more the better!   You use big photographs, and usually only one per page. You keep journaling to a minimum and just explain the story - you prefer to focus on the title. You use bright colors and feel proud of each and every page you create. You are not scared to try new techniques and are really up-to-date with the latest trends. You probably subscribe to a monthly scrapbook kit club. Try adding borders to your page with a black pen to highlight some of your designs.

If you scored mainly (5)s, your style is "Traditional." You like to keep things clean and simple with minimum fuss. You rarely use embellishments and prefer writing in strips as it keeps your layout neater. You opt for square or rectangular photos and a lot of white space. You like using transparencies and keep the page calm and uncluttered. You take your time over a page, ensuring each piece is strategically placed - and placed straight too - no soft edges or slanted photos for you!  Try using a sketch for inspiration and use smaller embellishments to add a subtle dimension.

If you scored mainly (6)s, then your style is "Cutesy." You cannot resist the paper with the cute woodland animals and love adding characters to your page to help illustrate the story you are telling.  You like doodling on a page and love swirly writing.  You try to make every page different but like to streamline them if in an album. You tend to use buttons often on your layouts and enjoy stamping fun images to enhance the page.  You probably have a lot of animal- and kid-themed pages in your collection. Try mixing things up a little by doodling your own cute images.
