July 2006 Sketch Challenge
This month's sketch is a one-page, two-photo layout. I like to keep my sketches very simple, so that I don't feel restricted. I love to have creative freedom, while still having a nice jumping-off point with an easy-to-follow sketch. With that in mind, I kept this layout open with plenty of space for embellishment, journaling, and a creative title. I sent the sketch to Nicole Barczak, Kristi Mangan, Kayla Richards, Molly Bridges, and Nicole Durtschi to see their interpretations of the sketch. Nicole Barczak changed things up a bit by turning the photos horizontally, rather than keeping them vertical. While she omitted journaling, opting for a sub-title and main title, the addition of her flower embellishments pulled it all together. Kristi stuck to the true elements of the sketch, while adding some creative touches without taking the focus off the photos. Rather than use the journaling words underneath the title, she made better use of the space on an 11" x 8.5" layout by adding the word strips beside the title. Kayla had some fun with this one! She chose to run her journaling and title all along the bottom of the layout, while still keeping the photo placement of the sketch in mind. Molly stayed very true to the sketch, while adding a bit of extra flair with ribbon and title-in-title embellishing. Nicole Durtschi used the photo placement as a jumping-off point for her pretty paper rather than for photos. Adding one large photo rather than two smaller ones, she still kept the journaling and title true to the sketch. I tried to keep it simple (that's my favorite word lately) while still using some color, and small accents. I added in some quick computer journaling, and kept things very much in line with the sketch while still having some fun with small embellishments. The best part about keeping it simple? It leaves plenty of room for your imagination to have free rein. Hopefully we've inspired you to get some photos out, and get scrappin'!
