June 2006 Sketch Challenge
Need some quick layout ideas? Then try one of the many sketches on Scrapjazz. Whenever I'm in a funk, I often find that a sketch is the perfect way to rekindle my creativity. This month's sketch has room for up to three or more photos and plenty of space to add journaling and embellishments. Here's how several designers used the sketch to make it their own. Shaniqua Young (SLYscrapper) used a combination of papers to work with the photos of her son playing in mud puddles. The striped top and bottom borders provide a nice frame for the page. Note how the modest use of embellishments accentuates the photos. Shaniqua used a combination of rub-ons and painted chipboard letters for the title, making a layout with terrific visual appeal. Rebekah Compton's interpretation of the sketch includes an oversized photo of her son, Cole. She carries the "overalls" theme throughout the layout with her use of embellishments. She attached ribbons to look like suspenders, and the little corner embellishment also reflects the theme. The bright and cheerful colors are a perfect match for the photos. What a splendid way to remember treasured family moments like baking cookies! Charla Fields (scrapbookdiva) created a page that is sure to be cherished for years to come. In "Mom's Chocolate Chip Cookies," Charla's photos tell the story. She reversed the photos and added a rick-rack border around the cookies to make that the focal photo. The rich color scheme of the BasicGrey papers combine for a fun page. Nora Noll used photos of her darling daughter eating a push-pop. She chose patterned papers that match the design in the photos and added hand journaling. Nora added a few embellishments and her unique style to the title design to make her layout shine. Chris Williams (ChrissyW) uses arrows in her journaling to make for a fun look. She explains the game that her children are playing in hidden journaling under the title. The generous use of flowers add terrific eye candy to Chrissy's layout. Finally, using cardstock and just a single sheet of patterned paper, I designed a layout to capture the fun personality of my oldest grandson, Desmon. I painted Heidi Swapp ghost letters for the title, and used just a few embellishments to make this quick and easy layout. I hope these layouts motivate you to try the June sketch. Pull out your photos and let your creativity run wild.
