May 2006 Sketch Challenge
A sketch! It's the perfect starting point for your layout. Ever since Creating Keepsakes and Becky Higgins teamed up and released her Sketches books, I was hooked. I adored her first book! To me it was the only way I could begin my layouts. For a while there, I was so hooked, I couldn't put a layout together unless I used a sketch. I have since moved on and changed to single-page layouts with the very occasional two-pagers. However, I have not changed from the basic need to have a "sketch" first in my head before I can begin. I feel my layout cannot start until I have an idea of how I will lay out my large elements. Once I have those established, I am off and running. Here's this month's sketch. It has three photos of different sizes, a horizontal element and a journaling or title element. I asked Patter Cross, Tara Daigle, Kim Hughes, Ali Lipton, Kristi Mangan and Ashley Smith to join me in creating a layout with this sketch. So here's a fantastic sampling of layouts from some very talented ladies! Patter created a beautiful layout of herself as a baby. She omitted the smallest picture, and added a flower to keep the balance of three items as the center focus. Tara's layout of her sweet twins Logan and Austin stayed true to the sketch. The lower photo takes center attention with its positioning on the page. The horizontal papers and stitching balance out the vertical photos. My friend Kim wowed me with her bright, colorful parrot page. She stayed true to the sketch, kept things simple, added the dot detailing and created a really clean-line, colorful page! Ali's layout has the reverse pop of color with white on black. Her photos and lettering really stand out against the black background. Her circle rings made for a fun and unique horizontal element, and the hand-drawn borders are a neat touch! Kristi altered her sketch to fit an 8 ½" by 11" page. She kept the same basic scheme but changed out the third photo for her journaling pullout. Her horizontal element is below her bottom picture giving it more attention and adding additional pop to the page with the cool paper she choose. Clayton's happiness is contagious as Ashley shows off on her page. She added a flower in place of the center photo and added her journaling to the bottom left balancing out her page with her title placement. Finally, in my layout, I used the Baby Girl sticker in place of the middle photo and balanced out the page with the horizontal papers. I hope all these amazing layouts offer you inspiration to get out some fun pictures and supplies and join us in using this month's sketch! Drop me a note and let me see what you have made!
