Inspiration @ the Grocery Store
To me, going to the grocery store is about as tedious and boring as watching golf on TV. If I had to choose between the two, I would have to pick the grocery store. This is especially true since I have begun to shop with new eyes and ears, and my handy dandy notebook. You see, I decided to get the most out of my shopping time by looking for scrapbook inspiration while I shop. Here is what I have found so far: Package Inspiration: Graphic designers and marketing experts are paid top dollar to design packages that are pleasing to the eyes. Color combinations, graphics, use of fonts and overall design are some of the items you should notice. Surprisingly, wine bottles were the most inspirational items I saw, perhaps because of their simplicity. Example by Cheryl Overton Store Signs: Signs that hang in the store, especially seasonal signs, contain terrific sayings and attractive artwork, especially at trendier grocery stores. Even the store directory can inspire a layout. Try creating a directory of your child's room, or a listing of the flowers in your garden. Conversations: Whether it is a conversation you have with your child or spouse, or one you overhear, conversations in the grocery store can inspire interesting topics for scrapbook pages. Last week while shopping, my son told me he didn't want me to buy anything red, because it didn't taste good. That was a little fact I didn't know, and I quickly jotted it down so that I could capture that thought in a layout. Food-related Topics: As you shop, document the types of things your shopping says about you and your family. Capture those in your layouts. These include such things as favorite foods, how and when you shop, cost of food, and neat new products. Years from now, later generations may find it interesting that there was a person who sliced your cheese in the deli and that your favorite was cheddar or Swiss. Slogans and Phrases: How many little slogans and jingles can you think of that have become mainstay sayings in your conversations? Things like "wimpy wimpy wimpy. HEFTY HEFTY HEFTY" or "Just Do It." Advertisers count on those sayings being catchy enough for you to remember, and many of them make terrific page titles. I bet you didn't realize how going grocery shopping could really count as scrapbook time, did you? I can't wait to see what you come up with from your next shopping trip!
