February 2011 Sketch Challenge

by Rachel Myerson (Feb 7, 2011)

Mixed-up fonts are the latest trend in scrapbooking and also a great way to use up leftover alphabets. This month’s layout sketch features an opportunity to add a phrase or saying in mixed-up fonts.

I asked several designers to interpret the sketch.

Mary Eason (mjbee) used mixed-up fonts across the top and the side. I love all the strips she used across the bottom and the way the buttons tie everything together.

Sheredian Vickers took an entirely different approach with great results. She added a big circle around her photos and cleverly put her journaling on a bird.

I had a lot of fun doing my layout for this sketch, using a combination of Halloween and soccer embellishments. I cut the word “scary” from a chipboard strip to give it added dimension

I hope you enjoy working with this sketch and experimenting with mixed-up fonts. Remember you don’t have to follow the sketch exactly, just let it inspire you, and don’t
