Inspiration at Home
It's been a busy day at work. You've been running errands, and juggling all that modern life requires to sustain it. Finally, you turn the key and you are home. Your home is your sanctuary, your refuge from the world; your place of comfort and security. Your home is a reflection of you, your personality, your likes and dislikes. Your home and possessions have sentimental value, memories, and stories to be shared. Are you recording these in your scrapbook? If the answer is not yet, then read on for some ways to incorporate your personality through your home into your scrapbooks.
In your room you will find many elements that are infused with your preferences. Do you love the comforter on your bed? Perhaps you could use the colors for inspiration for a page about your bedroom. Did you pick the wallpaper on your walls? Use stencils, stickers, or other borders that resemble that pattern. What kind of fixtures did you choose? Add silver, copper, or gold accents to your pages about your favorite room. Love the textures of your couch or pillows? Add matching ribbons, fibers or fabric to your page to mimic that look.
You will have many items in your room that you will want to document. Perhaps you are lucky enough to have a dresser or other piece of furniture that has been passed down through your family for generations. Now is the time to tell its story. You may have a blanket with sentimental value, a collection of dishes, or a stuffed animal that your husband gave you while you were dating. If you have something that you realistically can't keep forever, but it means a great deal to you, it is best to have a photo with journaling than have vague memories of it years from now. You may not always have the possession, but it can live on in your scrapbook for many generations to come.
How does your room make you feel? Different rooms will obviously yield different emotional responses. Feeling creative in your scrapbooking space is very appropriate, while feeling safe, secure, and comfortable in your bedroom is also fitting. Be sure to include the activities you attend to in your favorite room. Such activities might include: putting on make-up, picking out clothes, reading (pictures of books and magazines by your bed work well), cooking in the kitchen, clipping recipes, decorating or setting the table in the dining room, exercising, playing with pets, even cleaning and redecorating your favorite room count!
Perhaps you love a room in your friend's or family's home. Their room is the perfect reflection of them, and thus is a great way to document your relationship. In the layout here, this sunroom in my mother in-law's house evolved over a lengthy redecoration process. I was skeptical about using the color red in such a small space, but it turned out beautifully. It has become a favorite room for all of us to gather in when we visit.
Now that you are home, take a look around and take inspiration in the things and people you love. Best wishes for the happy scrapping of your room and home!
