November 2009 Sketch Challenge

by Sheredian Vickers (Nov 2, 2009)

This sketch can be used for one to four photos.  Embellish a little, a lot, or not at all; it's totally up to you.  I asked four Scrapjazz artists to design layouts and then challenged the Heritage Scrapbook Club of Houston, Texas to design layouts based on the sketch, and the results were truly amazing.

My layout, "Water Fun," has four photos on a background of assorted patterned papers.  The largest photo is on pop-dots to add dimension and to draw focus to the photo.  Brackets at the top and bottom of the photo also add emphasis.  The page is embellished with a trio of buttons in the lower left corner, and the title is cut from black cardstock using the Cricut Lyrical Letters cartridge.  The layout is layered on black cardstock.

"Never Stop Having Fun" is a cheerful and colorful layout by Marielle LeBlanc (marilou64).  The vibrant patterned papers and fabulous title design combine to make this layout extra special.  The cut embellishments are true eye candy while adding dimension to the page.

Charla Fields' (Scrapbookdiva) layout, "Anniversary," highlights a very special occasion.  Charla used blocks of coordinating patterned papers that complement her dress perfectly alongside the single photo. She embellished the layout with hearts and flowers, further capturing the sentiment.  Charla's layout and heartfelt journaling will certainly preserve their celebration for years to come.

"Mini Cooper," a layout by Amy Chomas, is a great replica of the sketch.  Her color choices are splendid on the layout, and her title design has brackets like the sketch.  Amy embellished the layout with clusters of buttons and then added journaling in the lower right corner.

Mary Eason (mjbee) never ceases to amaze me with her style.  Mary's layout, "Strategy," is an awesome design, embellished with cut-out chess pieces and buttons.  The strips of patterned paper along the borders draw attention to the perfect photos, and the little owl is priceless!

Heritage Club layouts were submitted by Bridget Inman, Susan Laine, and Ida Fridia.

Bridget Inman captured elements of the title design by using an open bracket, and then added a single photo onto a patterned background.  The patterned papers work well with the colors in the photo, and altogether Bridget designed a classy and elegant page.

Susan Laine's layout, "Freedom," reflects true patriotism with photos that capture a piece of history.  The star background pulls together all the elements of the page.  Susan added star buttons to carry out the theme of her layout.  Susan's recollection of this special time is forever recorded.

Ida Fridia submitted the layout, "Sassy."   Ida used a diecut background to design her page, and then added journaling on a smaller diecut that mimics the background.  Her paper choices and colors are perfectly coordinated and pay a wonderful tribute to her daughter.
