April 2009 Sketch Challenge

by Sheredian Vickers (Apr 2, 2009)

1_265This sketch was initially created for a family reunion layout and then later used for other occasions including birthday and holiday celebrations.  The sketch is versatile and easily adaptable. I asked three Jazzers to submit layouts based on the sketch and got some amazing results.

For my layout, "Family," I used a single sheet of BasicGrey patterned paper as the background for photos from a recent Thanksgiving.  I embellished the title letters with ribbon and buttons to keep the layout clean and simple.  I cut computer-generated journaling into strips, inked the edges, and then adhered the strips below the photos. The entire layout was trimmed and matted onto a black sheet of cardstock to frame the page.

"When I Look" is a stunning digital design created by Lisa Blastik (Kaye222).  Lisa substituted a journaling block for one of the photos and added layering to give a sophisticated textured look.  The flourish and flower embellishments work well to accent the photo.  The colors are soft and subtle with a little bit of pop to give the design extra appeal.

Amy Chomas (Amy Chomas) designed a fun and colorful page that captures life perfectly.  Using her trusted Cricut, Amy created a die-cut title that works magic on her layout.  The stars and buttons are ideal embellishments.  The green elements create a visual triangle that draws attention to the photos.

Lesle Mora's (LesleMora) digital design commemorates the inauguration of President Obama with classic elegance.  Lesle used the traditional American color scheme and selected papers that represent the stars and stripes of the American flag.  The red star embellishment unites the photos.  Lesle's layout captures a piece of American history with style.

This sketch is ideal for making the photos the main attraction on your page.  I challenge you to try the April sketch and share your layout in the Scrapjazz gallery.
