Bored and Blocked

by Andrea Steed (Mar 31, 2004)

I love scrapbooking. I truly do. I scrapbook almost everyday, if possible. Every once in a while though, I get bored of making layouts of what seems to be the same things over and over again. That's when I know I need to spice up my system to get back into the swing of things.

When I get bored or blocked from any new ideas, I try to do a few different things:

Try a new technique.

I try something I've never dreamed of trying or thought was crazy when I first saw it. Shrink art, paper clay, acrylic paint, shadow boxes….

Pick a Random Photo.

Instead of scrapbooking the next photo in line chronologically, I try to choose one that I may have skipped over and find something interesting to journal about.

Buy something.

Okay, so it's probably not the best advice, but when I'm bored with what I've been doing, sometimes it means I need something new to look at in my stash to inspire me…and then USE it.

Scraplift.

Some of the fastest layouts I've ever done have been scraplifts of other pages. You already know you like it…you just have to re-create it. Scrapbooking with someone else's style can sometimes help open my mind to new ways of looking at how I scrapbook.

Take photos.

Maybe the photos I have just aren't "doing it" for me at the moment. Go out and take some more! I'm never more inspired to scrapbook then when I get a new roll of film developed.

I was feeling kind of "blah" about what I had available to scrapbook yesterday afternoon, so I decided to take a few new photos and do an "about me" page focusing on journaling. I even used some SEI paper that I'd been wanting to use for a while. That kicked off a scrap-a-thon for the evening!
