June 2008 Sketch Challenge
This month's sketch challenge includes a blend of linear scrapbooking and whimsical curved lines. Three horizontal photographs overlapped across the bottom of the page create a linear border that is balanced by a curved border and various sizes of round embellishments across the top of the page. Let's see how our designers tackled the sketch using their own photos and supplies. I knew that these three photos of me on the beach would be a perfect fit for the overlapping design. I lined up the photographs so that the horizon line and sand created the illusion of one long shoreline. The connected look helps create a more fluid line from one picture to the next, which was the perfect effect for these yoga pose pictures. Georgina Hefferman added to the sketch by layering a scalloped circle behind all of the elements. Then, instead of adding a curved upper border, she used a journaling element blocked with curved lines and created conjoining stripes with ribbon. Kayla Richards shortened the sketch to adapt it to fit her 11" x 8 1/2" page. She also used a strip of patterned paper, cut in the shape of a curve to create a curved line for her title. Lisa Carroll used die-cut paper to create an intricate design in her curved border. Also, instead of lining the photos up straight across the bottom, she tilted them to add to the playful nature of the boys playing in the water. The circle embellishments added throughout the page are the perfect embellishment for a water-themed layout. Rachel Myerson used baseball-themed paper to create the curved border and added baseball stickers as the circle embellishments. Perfect additions like these support the theme of the photographs. The best thing about sketches is that everyone sees them differently and interprets them uniquely. I can't wait to see your interpretation!
