Scraplifting Yourself: Vol. 6

by Maegan Hall (Mar 6, 2008)

I don't know about you, but lately I've been feeling overwhelmed by lots and lots of photos needing to be scrapbooked. Sure, I know friends who can slap them down and move on, but that's just not me. It doesn't make me feel anymore accomplished if I've created a layout that I don't like. I'd rather leave my photos in boxes. So, I've been scraplifting myself more lately. Why? Well, if I like the layout the first time, why not re-create it for a different album? Some of my "lifts" are exact and some are "inspired." I hope you are inspired to get some pages done after reading this.

I created "Together Forever" for an online store when we realized that the paper had been sold out. I quickly created an exact copy, "Candy Houses," using more recent papers. It only took about two hours. The only reason it took so long was the hand stitching. I copied the first layout almost exactly.

I created "Locks of Love" a long time ago. I still love it today. I love how linear it is, but it still has whimsical details too. The photos are stacked vertically. The title is also vertical, but the letters are lying on their sides. For "Design Star," I kept the same linear sketch of the layout, but I switched my whimsical swirls on the left side of the title (on "Locks of Love") to the stars on the right side of the layout.

The layout "Her & I" was created for my daughter's baby book, so I knew I would recycle the composition again. This time I changed the vertical photographs to horizontal, but kept the title in the same place. I embellished "Ariel's Grotto" more, but the photo and title placement is the same. Sine "Ariel's Grotto" is going into my Disney album, I plan on using the sketch again for yet another album.

When getting my photos from the developer, I realized that I maybe printed a few too many pictures of Arabela's first encounters with characters. There was one occasion when Minnie and Mickey literally monopolized her. They spent 20 minutes (no joke) playing with her and tickling her. The end result was a lot of photos to scrapbook. I liked how "Summertime" could fit a lot of photos, but I needed room for more. I added a second page on the left and ended up with "Up Close and Personal." I used red vellum to mat my photo and create my title.

Have you attended an event lately where a lot of photos were taken? Are you overwhelmed by not being willing to compromise your artistic integrity by "slapping together" layouts? Well, how about copying some of the great layouts you've already created!
