Turn Sketches into Cards
What do you get when you use a few fun stamps, some embellishments, one piece of double-sided patterned paper, a bit of cardstock, and the Best of Becky Higgins Sketches book? You get five easy and adorable cards! The new Best of Becky Higgins Sketches book is amazing. It contains all of Becky's sketches from Creating Keepsakes Creative Sketches and Creating Keepsakes Creative Sketches Volume 2. Plus there are 195 new sketches contained in this book. It also is a hardbound spiral that measures 6 ¾" x 9 ½" so it is easy to carry, read, and store. It is just wonderful. These sketches can be used for any page size, as well as for cards! Let's look at five cards I created using five different sketches from this book. Sketch Pg. 4: Thinking of You Card For this 5" x 4" card, I only used the left-hand side of the sketch, and then I rotated it as well as moving the two squares. I placed embellishments in the two squares instead of photos or journaling as intended on the original sketch. Sketch Pg. 31: Thinking of You Card For this 4" x 5" card, again, I only used the left-hand side of the sketch. Then I used ribbon in place of the horizontal strip of patterned paper that you see on the sketch. If you used the right-hand side of the sketch, you could also make another awesome card. Sketch pg. 50: You Go Girl Card Using only the left-hand side of the sketch, I created this fun 4" x 6" card. I chose to leave off the three squares on the sketch but you certainly could add embellishments or patterned paper squares in those places. Use your imagination. Sketch pg. 131: Thoughts of You Card For this sketch, I only used the top title portion to create my 6" x 4" card. I also looked at the designer's sample layout in the book, and decided to use brackets too just as she had done on her layout. Sketch pg. 132: Take it Easy Card Using only the left-hand side of the sketch again, I created this fun 4 ½" x 4 ½" square card. The sketch could have easily inspired a 6" x 4" card but I decided to change it up a little and make it square. If you have never made a card before, using sketches may be just the inspiration you need. As you look through your sketches, look at how you can flip it, change the shape, add embellishments in place of pictures, or use only a portion of the sketch. Using sketches really makes card-making fast and fun, and it does not take up a lot of product either. Remember I only used one piece of patterned paper to make all five of these cards! So, grab your sketch book and make some cards. Be sure to post your cards in the gallery. We would love to see them! All supplies courtesy of Inspire Me Card Kits.
