Card Making Magazine Reviews

Recently I reviewed current scrapbook magazine publications and offered a bit of information on each magazine. Card making is just as popular as scrapbooking and there are plenty of publications to fit this niche as well! Each one offers a little something different from the others. Some are a bit fancier with more stamping involved, others are a bit more crafty. Here is a review of the eight card magazines currently available for subscription.
CardMaker is a fun magazine that offers a bit of something for everyone. They feature beautiful, large, clear photos with detailed supply lists and amazing instructions. They offer downloadable patterns and lots of great ideas for a wide range of topics. CardMaker has its own website with online tutorials, newsletters, downloads, contest information, current issue information, subscription service and more. They also include information on sister publications.
Right off the bat you've noticed the price, haven't you? I would immediately respond that this magazine is more like a book, a coffee table book if you will. It's made well, is a smaller width and height, and has heavier-weight pages. It's filled with beautiful cards and great photography. They not only give a supply list but well-written-out instructions for making each card. It's definitely not the same as a magazine but yet not quite so formal as a hardbound book. The magazine has a website where you can view information on the current issue, order back issues, subscribe, read current submission requests and see their sister publications.
The magazine recently merged its Paper Made Easy publication with Crafts ‘n Things. This new format will offer over 200 projects including 50+ cards per issue with full-color photos and detailed instructions. They cover every type of craft from sewing, painting, party planning and more! There's truly something for everyone! The magazine has an online website with subscription service, back issues for purchase, editorial and submission information, downloadable patterns and peeks into every issue!
The magazine boasts over 300 cards per issue with full color photos and detailed instructions. They cover nearly every possible card topic so there's something for everyone. The magazine has an online website with subscription service, back issues for purchase and editorial and submission information.
The magazine has cards for every imaginable occasion as well as great altered home décor and gift ideas. In every issue you'll find Joy of Card Making sketches, Ask the Pros, Tips and Tools, Paper Crafts 101 and much more. The cards provide supply list and step-by-step instructions. This magazine has grown to such a size that it boasts a large online community, gallery, contests, e-mail newsletters, helpful videos, downloads and more. They offer current project calls and submission guidelines on their website. It's easy to submit on their website as well.
Paper Trends is a sister publication to Cards. So once again you have the higher price for a magazine that is more like a book. It's similar to Cards in dimension, construction and paper-weight. It boasts 164 pages with very limited advertising. It's filled with beautiful cards and altered projects, illustrated by great photography including close-up shots. Like Cards, they not only give a supply list but thorough instructions for making the cards and projects. It's definitely not the same as a magazine but yet not quite so formal as a hardbound book. The magazine has a website which you can view information on the current issue, order back issues, subscribe, read current submission requests and see their sister publications. Scrapbook and Cards Today Magazine
Scrapbook and Cards Today is a brand new Canadian scrapbook magazine. What makes it unique is that you can download the magazine from the website for free, or subscribe to the "paper" version. What a unique idea! If you visit the site now you can view and download the Autumn 2007 issue. The issues offer page ideas, cards, projects and much more. The magazines website offers subscription service, information on the current issue as well as photos of cards, projects and more. Also submission information and where you can find the magazine for purchase.
Take Ten offers nearly 500 cards each made in 10 minutes or less. Each issue is filled with great tips and techniques, beautiful designer and guest designer samples and lot of eye candy to look at. They are a well-packed magazine offering something for everyone. The magazine also has its own website with a lot to offer, including peeks into current issues, back order issues for purchase, subscription help and links to their beautiful sister publications such as Somerset Studio, Somerset Life, The Stampers' Sampler and more. There are many special issues as well.
