October 2007 Card Sketch Challenge
I am somewhat notorious for forgetting to send greeting cards. Oh, I remember birthdays and anniversaries a few days before the event, but then end up needing to call since the card never made it in the mail. So, when I make cards, I am usually in a rush to get them done and in the mail. It is for this reason that I love card sketches, especially simple ones like the one I have done this month. But don’t let its simple lines fool you – our artists this month have shown that you can do a quick, simple card or a more complicated card with the sketch. You’re Absolutely Amazing By Jennifer Sizemore - stamps: Stampin’ Up!
- ink: EZ Tintz in Dusk and Leaf
- button
- thread
For this card I adapted the sketch slightly to create a square card. Because the image I wanted to use was not very large, I added a fourth box to the background. The flower and greeting were placed inside the bottom right square in order to make all elements fit better on the square background. Happy Birthday Card By Nora Noll For her literal interpretation of the sketch, Nora decided to use a present with a bow instead of a flower, as her card carries a birthday greeting. Hello Card By Nora Noll - card: Die Cuts With a View
- cardstock: Bazzill
- Patterned paper: Imagination Project
- flower: QuicKutz
- tape: Heidi Swapp
- ink: Tim Holtz Distress Ink for Ranger Industries
- punches: Paper Shaper circle punch by EK Success
- stamp: Rubber Stampede
For this card, Nora mixed up the elements of the sketch for a completely new look, perfectly illustrating how a sketch can be used in many ways without being repetitious. PS: I Love You By Cheryl Overton Cheryl chose to use a heart instead of a flower for her image to further emphasize the card’s sentiment. The black stitches create perfect balance on the card. Thinking of You By Paula Clark - paper: Heidi Grace "Cherrywood Lane"
- cardstock: Bazzill
- embellishments: Heidi Grace "Cherrywood Lane" plastic flower embellishments and Bazzill blossom
- stamp: Stamp-It
- metallic brad
- embroidery thread
Paula stayed pretty true to the original sketch, but added lots of interest with stitching, sanding, patterned paper and a layered dimensional flower. Thinking of You By Libby Weifenbach - background Paper: La-la-la-Leo kit by Lauren Grier & Robin Carlton
- glitter alpha: Crazy Little Thing by Lauren Grier & Robin Carlton
- flower accents: She's Krafty by Robin Carlton
- drop shadows: Traci Murphy
For this card, Libby shows us that a sketch can be used to create a card digitally. She altered the sketch slightly to put a flower image on each of the squares. If you plan to mail a digital card, try adding some buttons, brads or ribbon to give them dimension.
