June 2007 Sketch Challenge

by Sheredian Vickers (Jun 1, 2007)

This sketch features the work of several talented artists. I sent the sketch to artists and asked them to just have fun with it. Their layouts were remarkably different, and it was refreshing to see the individual talents displayed by each of the designers.

Here is the sketch:

Charla Fields (scrapbookdiva) chose a neutral background to layer pretty colored strips of patterned paper. She used buttons to embellish the layout along with a large flower with a monogram center. Charla journaled around the photo to add her unique touch.

Mary Eason (mjbee) added some fun colors to her layout. She used patterned paper for her background and then used coordinating patterns and solids as a background for the photo. The journaling is done on solid-colored strips and she highlights words in the journaling. The use of various fonts in the title design is awesome. The embellishments that Mary used add perfection to the page.

Shaniqua Young (SLYscrapper) pulled off another masterpiece with her "1st Haircut" layout. The Crate Paper papers are excellent for her page. The colors are nice and subtle and perfect for the photo. The button accents provide the triangle visual, and the monogram and chipboard add texture. The font that Shaniqua used on the journaling strips is both classic and easy to read.

Chris Williams (ChrissyW) chose to do a digital layout. She created her own template and then worked her magic. The choice of colors is bold, but perfect for the page. I especially like how Chris used the big circle to direct the focus on the picture, while using a small circle for journaling. The blend of elements comes together to create a perfect digital design.

I created two layouts with the sketch. The first layout is almost exactly like the sketch. "Luv 2 Read" is a fun layout that adds a terrific family of Scribble Scrabble patterned papers to a solid background. Diecut tags, buttons and stamps complete the page.

"Grads" is another layout that uses the sketch. On this layout, two photos were used on the photo mat instead of one. The photos are placed on coordinating solid-colored cardstock with only one strip of patterned paper. The corners of the background paper are stamped to frame the page. There is room for lots of journaling, so I could easily tell the story of two people from two generations, each on their graduation day.

One sketch, six looks. Use the sketch and then add your own layout to the gallery at www.scrapjazz.com.
