April 2007 Sketch Challenge
by Patter Cross
(Apr 2, 2007)
For this month's sketch challenge, I layered three rectangles. These rectangles allow for pictures, journaling boxes, layered patterned paper, etc. I asked five designers to use my sketch, and I told them they could use those three rectangles any way they wanted. They were also free to do any page size and encouraged to make the sketch their own. Here is the sketch: ![]() Erica Gerhart Erica chose to use one picture of her stepdaughter, Bailey, on her layout. She used the other areas to layer patterned paper. Erica also chose to put another block over the diagonal. I love that added touch. ![]() Daniela Dobson Daniela really made the sketch her own by turning the sketch upside down. She also used one large 5" x 7" photo instead of the three rectangles. Daniela handcut a flower to use in place of the star in the sketch. Then she added another circle to the left to complete her visual triangle. ![]() Michelle Fulton Michelle decided to do a digital layout using the sketch. When she saw this sketch, the first thing that popped into her head was the lyrics of a song titled "Little Star ." It was perfect for this layout showing Michelle's two little stars. Michelle also used the entire right side of the sketch for her journaling. ![]() Chrystal Riddell Chrystal had a family photo shoot but has not had time to scrap these wonderful pictures. This sketch allowed her to use three of the family pictures on her layout. She used the circle in the upper left hand corner to include her journaling. ![]() Amanda Williams I love the brightness of Amanda's layout of her precious daughter. Amanda was able to use three of her great photos and layer them on her layout using this sketch. ![]() Patter Cross For my layout, I chose to use the sketch just as it was drawn. It was perfect for a simple and clean layout. I used one photo of my niece swinging, and I used the other rectangular areas to layer patterned paper. I also used the circle area for my journaling and a ribbon for the diagonal. ![]() I hope you will have fun with this sketch. Make it your own, and be sure to post it in the gallery when you are done. We would love to see how your layout turns out!
