December 2011 Color Combo
by Rachel Myerson
(Dec 15, 2011)
Have you ever noticed that certain color combinations immediately bring to mind certain occasions? For example, red and green make us think of Christmas layouts. However, by changing it just a little, we can use the same color combination for a variety of occasions. This month's color combination comes from the Teresa Collins Christmas Home collection. This collection has dark red, green, black, and white. However, I used the color match tool on a sheet from the collection that did not contain any green. Therefore, the colors in this month's color combo are dark red, black, and white. The tool added some greys and lighter reds which nicely complement these colors.
For the first example, I used this color scheme to make a holiday card. As expected, these colors give it the feel of a holiday card.
For the next example, I used the same colors and even the same papers to create a card with an entirely different feel. I added the lighter shade of red on the apple and now I have a Jewish New Year card. With a different greeting, these colors with the apple would make a perfect teacher card or other school-themed project.
For this card, I turned to the grey tones and made a card with a masculine, sports theme.
Try experimenting with this color combination to see all the different themes you can pull out of a single set of colors.
