February 2011 Color Challenge
by Jeanette Giancaspro (Feb 14, 2011)
For this month’s Color Combo Challenge, I’ve chosen colors that I used on a Valentine’s Day layout, a birthday card, and a Christmas gift box. Here is the palette:
This layout is from a Hallmark calendar that I received for Christmas from a very good friend of mine. It was a “bare bones” layout, and I added photos, a title, journaling, Valentine’s Day rub-ons, and a fun border strip with the Martha Stewart Crafts Lace Edge Border Punch.. Adding a neutral color like brown to this layout grounds all of the other colors and embellishments, and it keeps the layout from looking too “busy.”
This Holiday Explosion Box was the perfect packaging for handmade earrings that I gave to my children’s teachers last year. My Martha Stewart Crafts Scoring Board made constructing this box a breeze. (You can find the directions on my blog.) The Eskimo Kisses line by BasicGrey would be a wonderful choice for this box.
The last example I have for this month’s color palette is a birthday card that I made for my daughter. I used my Cricut Expression and the Paisley cartridge. I added some white as a neutral color, and I even got to use up some scraps of paper that I had been saving! Here are the additional products that I used to jazz up the papers: Big Kick/Big Shot, Stickles , Cuttlebug folders, Nestabilities, and the EK Success Daisy Chain Border Punch.
This is a very versatile color palette that can be used as the basis for many different projects. Don’t limit yourself to using only these colors; you can add whatever other colors you’d like, especially neutrals. Make them brighter or keep them pale. The choice is all yours. Have fun with this month’s colors, and don’t forget to upload your creations to the Scrapjazz Gallery. We’d love to see what you make!
