November 2009 Color Combo Challenge
Inspiration comes in all different forms. After staring at the Kleenex box on my desk at work, I realized that I really liked the colors in the box design, which had multiple shades of blue and green, as well as orange and white. These colors make me think of boys having fun or summer activities. However, with a little imagination they can be used for a wide variety of subjects.
I sent this color combination to Mary Eason to see how she would interpret it. In her first interpretation, she also thought of summer. However, she emphasized the orange and used the greens to give the layout an outdoor feel.
Mary also used the color scheme to make a card. Here she gave it a sweet feel using the colors for subtle emphasis.
For my summer layout, I found patterned paper that contained all the colors from this combination (with off-white instead of white). By matching my photo mats, title letters, and embellishments to the shades in the patterned paper, I was able to capture the fun of summer in the backyard.
Finally, I wanted to show that these colors can be used for a wide variety of occasions so I challenged myself to make some Hanukkah gift tags using this color combination. I chose Hanukkah because it is coming up and because these are not the traditional Hanukkah colors. However, by using appropriate die-cuts I believe I have captured the feel of the holiday and I now have fun tags.
Using multiple shades of both blue and green may seem like quite a challenge. However, I think that if you try it you will be pleased with the results. Have fun with this color combination and don't forget to share your creations in your gallery here at Scrapjazz.
