Orange You Glad?

Orange! Honestly, it is not my favorite color. In fact, I do not think I have ever purchased clothing for myself in orange or decorations for my house in orange or really anything in orange for that matter. However, when it comes to scrapbooking, I love to use this not-so-traditional color! It creates a bit of energy and happiness without being too bold.

Layouts Using Orange
Traditionally we think of scrapping with orange for Halloween or fall; however, there are many other times we can use orange on our layouts, cards, and altered items. I use orange for any theme and any time of year. Sometimes I decide to use it because of something that is in the picture I am using. For instance, on this layout, I chose to use orange because of the dark orange color of the wood on the playscape.

On the layout to the right called "Brother," there was already orange in the patterned paper. Plus my brother was wearing an orange shirt. It seemed natural and fun to add a few more touches of orange to this layout.

• Hamburger Head Revisited by Libby Weifenbach - I love how Libby used a bit of orange here to match the hat. It looks so good with the light blue and taupe.

• Nate & Mom by luvscrappin - Look at this awesome layout by luvscrappin using a touch of yellow and green with a lot of orange. Just perfect!

Color Combinations
There are lots of different color combinations you can use with orange. One great place for inspiration is patterned papers. There truly are many manufacturers that use orange in their patterned papers. Start looking for it, and you will be amazed. Some fun color combinations using orange are:

• orange and blue (both dark and light)
• orange and green
• orange and pink
• orange and yellow

I hope you will try scrapbooking with a little orange. It really is a fun color to use and adds a bit of ‘pop'!
