Color Trends
I am a catalog junkie. Not a single day goes by that I do not get a catalog of some sort in my mailbox. I receive everything from home décor to kids clothing to local department stores. I'll bet my mail carrier thinks I am a shopaholic, but she is not entirely right. I am a shop-a-scrapaholic. She may not be keeping track, but I know my stack of catalogs is taller than my stack of scrapbook magazines. Both stacks reside in my scrapbook room because I use them both to find inspiration for my paper projects. One of the more frequent types of inspiration from these catalogs is color combinations. I know I am not alone, as the trends in scrapbook design tend to follow the color trends I see in catalogs. (Or maybe scrapbooking has become so big that fashion trends follow scrapbooking trends.) Here are a few examples of color combinations that are popular now, in the catalogs and in paper arts. Blue, orange, green and brown Recent magazines featuring these color combinations include Anthropologie, PB Teen, Crate and Barrel, and Sundance. This combination is perfect for teen, boy and nature photos. Pink, light blue, green, red I started seeing this color combination more frequently about a year ago and it still remains popular. Catalogs include Land of Nod, Pottery Barn Kids, Coldwater Creek and American Girl. What I love about this combination is that mixing pink with blue, green and red makes it more acceptable to my seven-year-old boy. Red, black and brown I admit to loving a splash of red in almost any color combination. When it is paired with neutral colors, it is beautiful. A few of the catalogs in which I spotted this combination: Bombay Company, Art & Artifact, Pottery Barn, Domain and Exposures.
