Themed and Easy!
Have you ever had a time that meant so much to you that you wanted to create an entire scrapbook around it? Of course, you have. It could be wedding, birthday, Disney, summer vacation, your hopes and dreams or just about anything. I like to call these themed albums! These albums can be so fun and easy to create!
My family and I had the pleasure of renting a cottage this summer and spending several weeks on the lake. My daughter, Erin, who is 7 years old learned so many things this summer, that I wanted to capture them in an album that we could all pick up and enjoy! Our family enjoyed so much quality time together and we made tons of new friends. This is one summer that I didn’t want to forget! Choosing supplies - I decided to go with an 8" x 8" album and use the KISS principle (keep it simple stupid)! I used Pebbles In My Pocket paper throughout the book. In order to make the book flow and make it easier, I used all red as my background and just added touches of yellow, green, blue and pink to coordinate. Each page had at least one embellishment, either brads, buttons, fibers, tags, Jolees, charms, twistel, beads and more. Reminder: When shopping to complete a themed album, buy enough background paper and coordinating papers to finish. Go ahead and select embellishments to go with the album. Keep it all together, so that when you are working on this project, it is all together and you stick with a plan!! Organizing the book - I developed a title page and table of contents (much like Stacey Julians’ approach to Simple Scrapbooks). I then color coordinated the remainder of the book to match so that it was easy to follow. Anyone who looked at the book, could tell what we did over the summer. I decided not to mat my pictures, which was very difficult for me! I always mat everything. This made it easier to get more pictures on a page in such a small book. Telling the story - There was so much about the summer that many of the pictures didn’t capture, that I wanted a specific focus on my journaling. First I started with, Things we love about the lake and then I continued my journaling at the end of the book rather than on every page. Reminder: Always carry a journaling book with you. This will allow you to jot down things that you want to be sure and not forget and will make your journaling so much easier. We have shared this book with many of our new friends and many old friends, the journaling seems to bring a tear to everyones eye. That lets me know that I must have written from the heart! We all have many scrapbooks we are working on from time to time. I must say that doing a smaller, themed album was so much easier than the big chronological one. (although, I still can’t give up that need to have chronological scrapbooks.) I enjoyed every moment I spent on this album and am really enjoying sharing it with family and friends.
