My Word! What a Cute Chipboard Album!
The My Word chipboard albums from Bo Bunny Press are a great way to make a small album to give as a gift or to display on your coffee table . When completed, these albums are very impressive, but they are really very easy to make. They come in a variety of words including Baby, Party, Family, Believe, Love, and Friend. Since I was doing an album about my children's obsession with Star Wars, I chose the word Believe because of the line in the movie where Luke Skywalker asks Han Solo if he believes in The Force. When you get the album, each letter comes as a separate piece of chipboard. The first step is to cover both sides of each piece with patterned paper or cardstock. I chose to use a matching set of patterned papers. Since all the papers had similar color schemes, I chose to alternate patterned paper and solid-colored cardstock on the letters so that each letter would stand out. This would not be necessary if the papers had more contrast. Trace the chipboard onto your paper and cut out the traced shape. I found that the letters were so big that I could use a regular pair of scissors to cut them out and only needed to use my craft knife for the insides of the ‘B'. Don't forget to punch the holes along the edge. Once the papers are all cut, adhere them to the corresponding chipboard page. I used a glue stick, but many adhesive choices will work. After you have covered the pages, the fun part begins. Decorate each pair of pages like a mini layout. Remember that the right hand edge will show in the front. Line your pages up and close the album before you adhere photos and other elements to the right side in order to insure that only what you want visible is showing. This image shows the photo sticking out between the letters ‘E' and ‘L'. By lining it up like this, I was able to move the photo to the left until it didn't show. Use this same technique for any photos that show through a window such as the openings in the letter ‘B'. Nothing on the left side shows when the book is closed, so feel free to be creative and use the entire page. When your pages are decorated, you are ready to assemble the book. You can tie them together with ribbon or fiber, or you can use rings. I used ribbons. I suggest that you put all three ribbons through the holes before you begin tying them. Make sure that you tie them loosely so that the pages will turn. For the final touch, add any additional embellishments to the front. Try tying some ribbon or fibers around the legs of some of the letters. You're done; admire your finished album.
