2, 4, 6, 8... An Album They’ll Appreciate!
Each year I make my daughter an album containing photos of the previous school year. I choose to make them mini albums because my pictures are usually from various parties, programs and field trips spread out over the months. I am fortunate that she is in a school that requires uniforms, making the overall color choices pretty simple. With all the many school-themed products available, it is fun to incorporate them with the photos that I have. Always on the lookout for something to use for the next year, I was thrilled to find a small 6" x 12" album at my local scrapbook store. I wasn't sure that it would work at first, but when I realized that it would hold twenty pages. I knew it would be perfect. It was my first time making layouts in this size and by the time I was finished, I loved the results. The 6" x 12" format is great to use when you have only a few photos of each event and want to include simple journaling. It eliminates the need to fill the entire page with embellishments, etc. but also gives you a little added room over the smaller 6" x 6" albums. When I completed her school album, I thought about other mini albums that I could make using this same format. My mind was suddenly full of ideas. Because they are quick to assemble, they make great gifts for family, friends or teachers. You can make a 6" x 12" book of your own, without the need for a purchased album, using any 12" x 12" papers. Simply cut them in half (or with a single-sided printed sheet, fold it in half and glue) and then bind them together on the left with ribbon or stitching. It is easier to make your layouts first, but be sure to allow for the binding on the left edge. The next time you want to make a little something for your grandmother's birthday or to share some photos with your friends in a unique way, try a 6" x 12" layout. You will be pleasantly surprised (and so will they).
