Digital Scrappin'

“A Year of Favorites” Album

by Denise Gormish (Feb 28, 2007)

As a digital photographer, I take an overwhelming number of photographs. There are some bad ones and some that I really love. Sometimes it takes a long time to get them organized and printed. As a special way to record my favorite photographs sooner, I designed an album to feature my favorite photographs from each month. Each page represents one month and includes two to three photographs, a few words of text and a simple design.

Here's how to create a similar album:

  • Choose an album and size. To keep it simple, I chose to use a pre-made SEI album. The plain album featured a black cover and several 8" X 8" page protectors. I liked the size because I can quickly complete the smaller page. Any type or size of album, even homemade will work. Find a style and size that's comfortable for you.

  • Decorate the cover. Give your album an extra flair by decorating the cover of it. Use a patterned paper, cardstock or both to give it personality. Create a title using letter stickers, rub-ons, chipboard, etc. Include the year on the cover. Embellish with your favorite items such as hearts, flowers or flourishes. For my album, I used patterned paper and letter stickers as the basics. Since I love flowers I added paper flowers as well as rub-on flowers and vines.

  • Attach monthly tabs. To keep the monthly theme prominent, attach tabs that designate the time frame of the page. Not only does this make the theme of the album prominent when viewing the cover, but it also frees you from having to add a time frame to each page. The title and/or the theme on the tab make the subject of the page obvious.

  • Add pages monthly. With the album created, take a few minutes each month to chose your favorite photographs. Add them to the album. You can place them in the album with very little work. Add just a line or two to explain the photographs and you're done. You can create your pages either with traditional scrapping supplies or you can create your page digitally, then print it.

This format allows me to quickly do one page of the album each month. Sit down, create a small album and enjoy adding your monthly entries.
