Remember Without Photos

by Heidi Anne Giebel (Sep 11, 2012)

There have been events in my life that were so monumental that I want to get my feelings about them into my scrapbooks. Unfortunately, when it comes time to scrap these events I may not have any photos to go along with my journaling. Here are a few ways to assemble beautiful pages that do not include photos taken by you or your family members.

Have your journaling be the focus. Not every page you create needs to have a photo. Create a page that highlights your journaling with a corresponding title and embellishments. Write your journaling out and then mat it with a coordinating piece of cardstock on to your page.

Use photos from the Internet. For certain national and global events, the Internet is a great place to find photos. For example, I found this photo of the Twin Towers from September 11 on the Internet because I was not in New York City on that day.

Use photos from newspapers and magazines. Newspapers are perfect because you can find photos that are local to your regional area. Last month, when Hurricane Irene touched down here in the Northeast, our newspapers and some magazines were filled with photos and stories of great courage. These items are ideal to use on a scrapbook page where you want to remember what you did and how you were feeling at the time.

Use memorabilia on your pages. If you still have a receipt or ticket stub from the day you are remembering, use that on your page. Any item that might have the date stamped on it would be a wonderful addition to your page.

Scrapbook another person's feelings on a page. Write down the feelings of a family member or other loved one and along with his or her photo create a page about an event you wish to remember.

One last tip: When writing thoughts and feelings that you want to keep private, enclose them in an envelope on your page just as I did on this layout.
