The Poppets Have Landed!

Have you ever wished that you could create the wonderful, whimsical illustrations of internationally known collage artist Claudine Hellmuth? Well now you can, thanks to Lazar StudioWERX Inc.!

This year at CHA Winter 2006, Lazar StudioWERX Inc launched a new line of papers and clear stamps called Poppets^TM by Claudine Hellmuth, featuring her whimsical collages and illustrations. The collection is designed to inspire you and give you the tools to create fun storybook scrapbook pages, delightful cards, charming altered art and more.

Using the Poppets^TM Collection will breathe new life into boring scrapbook, card and altered book layouts. It is a truly original and fresh collection designed to help you add life, personality and let's face it, a little more laughter, to your art.

Here is how YOU can create a Poppet^TM 8" x 8" layout and a 4" x 9" card:

The 8" x 8" Layout:

1. Decide who will be the subject of your Poppet^TM layout. Is it you, your mother, your hubby, your child.
   
2. Find a headshot of your subject and print it at approximately 1"-1½" tall from collarbone to top of the head. TIP: Wallet-sized photos and contact sheet photos work really well for this.
   
   
3. Tightly crop the headshot as shown.
   
   
4. Next, decide where your Poppet^TM will ‘live'. Will she be in the city at night, in the country or at the beach? There are six wonderfully illustrated and handpainted Poppet^TM Places for you to choose from in the collection.
   
   
5. Crop your background to 8" x 8" from your favourite corner of the sheet. Save the scrap background paper to use when making cards.
   
   
6. Next, choose your Poppet^TM People character shape. Each package of the People contains eight laser-cut character shapes (four adults and four kids) with different handpainted ‘clothing' patterns.
   
   
7. Decide where in your background your Poppet^TM will stand, then tack the cropped headshot in place behind the character shape and adhere the entire character to the page.
   
   
8. Now, choose a set of Poppet^TM arms for your subject from one of the clear stamp sets. Stamp the arms on top of the character and background paper in dark black ink as shown. If you want, you can color in the purse in her hand to match the boots she's wearing, or leave it blank to show the fabric of the dress through the stamped image.
   
   OPTIONAL: Add a funny hat too by stamping and cropping a hat or crown from the Poppets ^TM Wacky Hats clear stamp set.
   
   
9. As a final step, add some fun journaling using a ‘thought bubble' stamp from the Poppet^TM Clear Stamps. You can have a lot of fun with this and really inject your subject's personality into the illustration! Simply stamp the bubble on white cardstock in black ink, write the journaling, then crop around the lines of the bubble and adhere in place above your subject's head as shown.
   
   
10. You are finished and have now created a Poppet^TM illustration of your very own! You now can add either a title or additional journaling if you want, or keep it simple and light by just following the directions above.

4" x 9" Spring Card Layout:

1. Follow the basic directions from above with the following modifications:
   
   
2. Using a scrap strip of paper from the 8" x 8" layout, crop it to measure 4" x 9".
   
   
3. Choose a pair of legs from the Poppet^TM Clear Stamps.
   
   
4. Stamp a pair of women's legs and boots with permanent black ink like Memories India Ink Black or similar black ink on white cardstock. Then color in the boots with pencil crayons or markers, like in the example shown. Crop tightly around the feet to the illustration line like the character shape.
   
   
5. Decide where in your background your Poppet^TM will stand, then adhere the Poppet^TM legs. Tack the cropped headshot in place behind the character shape and adhere the entire character over the cropped legs.
   
   
6. Stamp Poppet^TM arm (or arms) as directed in the 8" x 8" layout.
   
   
7. Create a dimensional garden feature using Prima flowers and silver mini-brads. Simply draw illustrative stems, grass and leaves with brown and green Sharpie markers, then add Prima flowers in a complementary color palette to the tops of the stems. Attach the Prima flowers with silver mini-brads.
   
   
8. Mount the entire card layout on chartreuse or pale yellow cardstock folded card for a spring-like feel.
   
   
9. Add spring sentiments inside the card as desired.
