Doodle in 3D with Soufflé Pens by Sakura of America

by Andrea Steed (Jan 1, 2006)

Looking for a fine-tip pen that can write on just about anything? Try the Soufflé 3-D Opaque Ink pens from Sakura of America. They are opaque pens that dry to a three-dimensional, matte-finish line.

Available in a 10-pack of pastel colors, including the coveted white pen, these pens show up on both light- and dark-colored surfaces. Though it may take three to five minutes to dry, as the ink dries the color becomes more vivid and the end result is a slightly raised line, giving it an embossed look without the hassle.

The pens create a .7mm line, giving you the flexibility to design with precision and detail. They’re also waterproof on many surfaces, extending the realm of possibilities for use even further.

10 Great Ways to Use Soufflé

by Tammy JacksonSoufflé pens are perfect for doodling, hand-journaling, and outlining on your layouts. Here are 10 great ways to add a personal touch to craft and scrapbooking projects using Soufflé pens:

  1. Journal on dark paper.

  2. Add doodles or words to brads, buttons, epoxy or acrylic embellishments.

  3. Make your own personalized embossed patterned paper by doodling on a piece of glossy-coated cardstock.

  4. Handwrite names or sub-titles onto shiny-coated stickers.

  5. Write a name and date on a holiday ornament.

  6. Outline a stencil to create an embossed-looking design without a heat gun.

  7. Trace over a stamped design to make it look hand-drawn.

  8. Doodle on a piece of vellum or transparency and then place it over a patterned or colored piece of paper or even a photograph for a three-dimensional design.

  9. Give a metal charm a brand new look by coloring it with a Soufflé pen.

Additional Tips for Using Soufflé Pens

Soufflé pens are so easy to use. These quick tips will help you get the best performance out of them.

  • Although they work on paper just fine, Soufflé pens produce the best results when used on non-porous surfaces such as shiny-coated cardstock or patterned paper, plastic, vellum, metal and glass.

  • Let the ink dry for a few minutes before touching it, to prevent smearing. In some cases, you may want to add a second coat of ink for a darker, more solid-colored look.

  • Let each color dry before adding other colors that might touch each other. It will keep the colors from smearing and mixing together on your project.

  • There’s no need to shake, pump or squeeze! Just write slowly to let ample ink flow from the tip of the pen.

Doodling is IN on scrapbook pages and card-making projects. These Soufflé 3-D Opaque Ink pens make it even more fun. Give them a try, and you’re sure to love them!
