Techniques, Stamps and Supplies from Scraptivity

by Andrea Steed (Jun 1, 2005)

I’ve reviewed them before, and I’ll rave about them again--the Scraptivity monthly layout kits are a great find. Not only do they provide fantastic coordinated product packages that can be used to create several layouts, but they’re also a valuable learning tool for both beginner and advanced scrapbookers. In addition to an amazing collection of papers, embellishments and stamps, each kit includes the products, instructions and ideas for learning a new technique.

Let’s take a closer look at everything you get, using the June 2005 kit as an example.

The Technique: Quilling
When compiling kits, Scraptivity seeks out companies that specialize in a specific technique. For instance, the June 2005 featured technique is quilling. The kit includes a quilling board, tool and paper strips from Lake City Crafts.

Quilling is a form of paper rolling that adds unique texture and dimension. It’s a great way to add embellishments to tags, make decorative photo corners, or even spruce up lettering in a title. To learn more about quilling click here.

Past techniques have included metal embossing, using clay and stamps to create monogram seals, image transfers, wood and metal embellishments.

The Stamps: Flower Framed Alphabet
My personal favorite, included in every kit, is a new set of Scraptivity clear stamps. The stamps included in the June kit are a delightful round alphabet set that fits into three different styles of flower frames.

Packaged in an adorable silver tin, these clear stamps self-adhere to a clear acrylic block and are so easy to use! Because they’re clear, you can see where you are stamping on your page and will have exact placement every time. Some recent stamp sets include a 1” monogram alphabet, flower shadow stamps, and build-your-own Paisley designs.

You can see the entire collection of stamp sets available at the Scraptivity web site.

The Papers: MOD Design by Autumn Leaves
Scraptivity includes only the best of the best paper lines in their kits. The June kit includes an assortment of papers from the MOD Design line from Autumn Leaves.

Gorgeous patterns, colors and coordinating cardstock are included in every month’s kit. Past patterned paper lines have included BasicGrey, Arctic Frog, SEI, and Chatterbox.

Now you can chat with the designers of the paper lines at the Scraptivity Show & Tell message board forums. Past designer “chats’ have included Melody Ross from Chatterbox, Wendy Milne from Scenic Route, and Rachel Brenchely from BasicGrey and this month will be Renee Coffey from MOD. The Embellishments: Trim, Brads & Icicles
A layout just isn’t complete without a few embellishments. These items vary from kit to kit so that they will coordinate with the papers and theme for that month’s kit. June’s kit includes coordinating decorative trim and ricrac, KI Memories Icicles, and colored brads.

Past kits have included all kinds of embellishments such as ribbon, eyelets, charms, or chipboard.

The Instruction: Notions
Whatever the technique and no matter the products, Scraptivity does a fantastic job of providing all that you need to make it work together. Layout examples, written instructions and colorful ideas for how to apply each technique to your pages are all included in the Notions newsletter that accompanies every kit. It’s like having a personal teacher delivered right to your door.

If you haven’t checked them out yet, what are you waiting for? These kits are a home run for any scrapper looking for cutting-edge ideas, hip products and a package every month!
