Lumpy Stuff Monochromatic Kits
The online store, Lumpy Stuff offers more than just standard scrapbook supplies. Each month Lumpy Stuff offers hand-chosen monochromatic embellishment kits to make scrapbooking easy and exciting.
In November 2003, Tracey Eller, owner of Lumpy Stuff, decided to create and sell color-themed layout and embellishment kits to meet the needs of her customers looking for more generic layout kits. Unlike many kits available on the market, her kits focused on a color theme rather than a specific event or holiday so that they could be used for many different kinds of scrapbook pages and be more versatile for scrapbookers. Every kit includes 20 sheets of 12” x 12” cardstock (5 sheets each of 4 colors) and 2 sheets each of two specialty papers. Specialty papers vary, but past kits have included mulberry cardstock, metallic papers, fabric finishes, and vellum. The remainder of the kit consists of embellishments carefully chosen to match the papers. While each month is different, generally the kits include a selection of small embellishments such as beads, eyelets, and brads along with the larger goodies. The embellishments are a nice mix of old standby's such as mesh and mosaic tiles and funky new items such as twig wrapped bark (May 2004) or purple bead chain (February 2004). What’s the inspiration for each kit? Most monthly themes originate with just one item. Says Tracey, “I am always on the lookout for new and interesting things for our scrapbook pages, and sometimes one just jumps out at me that I want to build a kit around. For instance, the July kit was inspired by a leaf ribbon. I just loved it the moment I saw it and started imagining all the fun things I could find in that same great shade of blue. Other kits start with my design team. They are incredibly talented and full of great ideas.” These kits are a great way to get a sampling of products that will all coordinate together nicely. It makes creating layouts a breeze when you know you have just the right embellishments to match the paper. The first kit was released in November of 2003. Lumpy Stuff began selling the kits by subscription to customers who wanted a kit every month in January 2004. Kits run about $30.00 each month. You can also often purchase the paper-only or embellishments-only kits for a discounted price. View a gallery of layouts using kits from Lumpy Stuff.
