Creative Scrapbooking Using ColorCutters® by Crafty Secrets

by Andrea Steed (Feb 16, 2004)

Crafty Secrets Publications recently released a book called Creative Scrapbooking Using ColorCutters®. What are ColorCutters® you ask? Only the “best new product” named at the National Art Materials Association Show this year (2003). ColorCutters® are manufactured exclusively by The ColorCutter® Division of Gizmo Enterprises, Inc.

These innovative markers contain an acid free pigmented ink, with a surgical stainless steel blade in the chisel tip, so you can cut and color at the same time, adding a colored finished edge to letters, tags, photos and embellishments in no time at all. They are currently available in over a dozen colors, including several beautiful metallic colors in gold, silver, copper, blue and more.

Helpful tips for using ColorCutters®:

  • Hold the entire chisel tip of the marker flat against a scrap piece of paper and press down and pull towards you until you can feel the blade engage and begin cutting. Some people press so lightly, they never engage the blade the first time. Others will pull the ColorCutter® sideways and the blade becomes tilted and can't cut the paper.

  • Always hold the tip flush against your cutting surface and pull towards you, turn your paper and pull towards you, so you have better control. They are easy and fun to use and they last for a long time.

The book, Creative Scrapbooking Using ColorCutters®, is a fantastic reference for using the ColorCutters®. It includes tips for holding the marker to get a clean cut, adjusting the blade to get a deeper cut, and tips for great ways to use them to create amazing scrapbook layouts. With over 50 layouts, tags, cards, and other paper project ideas, this book really helps bring the markers to life giving you just a glimpse of their various capabilities.

In addition to the tips and ideas, in the idea book, you’ll also find pages of printed quotes, sayings and patterns on acid free paper. The publisher also allows you to copy these pages so you can use them over and over again. By scanning and printing or using a copy machine, you can print the phrases and alphabets on any color or type of paper, making them truly unique to your pages.

These ColorCutters® are a great addition to your scrapbooking tools and offer a huge variety of possibilities for creating unique and exciting scrapbook pages.
